The National Secular Forum (NSF) today castigated the group of teachers from University of Jammu (JU) who are targeting the UT administration over nomination of bureaucrat as head of the selection panel for new Vice Chancellors of Cluster Universities while the Vice Chancellors of two state universities have been made only as members in the panel.
In a statement issued, NSF state president Dr Vikas Sharma said “the approach of some teachers in University of Jammu (JU) is very selfish. They want to enjoy the power of autonomous institution but don’t want to be either accountable or transparent.” All the hue and cry is being made the lobby of teachers who are trying to please their respective Vice Chancellors by targeting bureaucracy and alleging violation of statutes, he said.
“The teachers have different set of rules. When the statutes were violated in Jammu University and Central University of Jammu in the matter of appointments and administrative affairs, they kept silence. And now, when the UT administration has rightfully started exercising their powers, they are feeling the heat,” he added.
Dr Sharma alleged that corrupt elements in the Varsity were getting frustrated due to the active involvement of Higher Education Department in the varsity affairs. It has led to fixing of accountability in the system but the people who were habitual of manipulating the things till now, desperate to overturn the things, he further alleged.
The NSF state chief urged the Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu to carry on the good work and look into the irregularities and wrong-doings made in the varsity in the past.
